Backing up Skype contacts is smart if you ever get your skype hacked
One reason to backup Skype contacts and history, is to protect them should anything happen to your skype. Also when you attempt to install Skype 3.8 needed for searching skype users with Message Magic, you may find you can not install skype 3.8.
If you get an error message saying, “A later version of Skype 3.8 is installed” and “Installing Skype failed” when attempting to install Skype 3.8, then here is what you need to do. You will need to uninstall Skype in your Control Panel > Add Remove Programs (Windowns xp) or Programs & Features for Vista and Win 7. This will allow you to install skype 3.8.
When uninstalling skype, you run a risk of losing skype contacts and Skype history. It has not happened lately, but this did use to happen. So just to be safe, lets back up both your Skype contacts and history. Not a bad idea anyway as they can be restored if ever needed. Many Skype hackings reveal a real need to back up your Skype. Target Skype Contacts By Searching Backed-up Skype History
Another amazing benefit of saving your Skype history, using Message Magic, is that you can keyword search any word that your Skype contacts have written anywhere in your entire Skype history. Let’s say your business niche is mobile marketing, imagine searching all of your Skype history for the word “mobile”. This will find every person in your Skype history that has used the keyword pattern “mobile” anywhere in your entire Skype history. Find all the people who have chatted about your niche or business service or products.

Saving Skype Contacts to a csv file using Message Magic
Its is easy to back you your contacts with Message Magic.
- Load all contacts: Activities> Retrieve Users > Load From Contacts.
- right click over Profiles and Select all
- Activities> Retrieve Users > Save to CSV File
Message Magic: Tools>Advanced>Save Chat History
There is no easy way to back you your skype history by hand from your computer files. I can Skype you the instructions if you need them. However, you lose the benefit of keyword searching skype history if you do it without Message Magic. Backing up your Skype History with Message Magic is as easy as clicking a few buttons. This works in any version of Skype also. Step by Step How to Backup Skype History w MM:
- Settings > System Configuration > Set number of messages to save
- Tools > Advanced > Save Skype History
- Let Message Magic run until its done, which can take awhile, depending on the amount of Skype history or messages you set and have to save.

Once you have saved your skype, did you do all this? :
- Save Skype Categories (if you have any)
- Save Contact to a csv file
- Save chat history – let this run until its done.
- Made a copy of your Skype 5 in Program Files
- Uninstalled Skype (don’t worry, its safe in a backup copy remember)
… you can now go to oldapps.com and get your version Skype 3.8. (Win 7 use 3.8.0.115 or what ever is compatible for Win 7, xp and Vista use 3.8.0.188). Or if you already have it, its in your download folder. Double click to install 3.8. Then be sure to read Getting and Preserving Your Skype 3.8 and STILL Using Your Newer Skype Versions here.
