Friday – October 26 – Global Fields in AWeber… How to use them correctly

Global Fields in AWeber

Before we look at our training for today, we have to look at some news from AWeber.

Please plan ahead, then this should not really be a problem.

NOTICE: Upcoming Maintenance, October 30, 2007

On Tuesday morning, October 30, 2007, between the hours of 5am and 6am EST, the AWeber customer and affiliate control panel will be unavailable for system upgrades. Please plan the creation and delivery of any newsletters accordingly.

Customer web forms displays, web form sign ups, click tracking links, open rates, and unsubscribe links will continue to function throughout this period for your website visitors and subscribers.

Any new subscriber sign ups during that period will be queued and sent the initial message once maintenance is completed. Any follow up or broadcast newsletter messages scheduled during that time period will be delivered at the completion of the maintenance period.

Periodic updates are necessary to continue to build larger, faster, easier to use tools to automate your business email marketing. Thank you for your patience as we make these upgrades to continually improve AWeber’s service for you.

Sincerely,
Tom Kulzer

Now to get back to today’s training. We are explaining AWeber’s Global Fields.

Global Fields consist of two very important parts..

  • Field Name
  • Global Value.

AWeber Custom Global Fields are a group of personalization variables that, when used throughout your messages in this list, will always print the value that you have specified. For example, create a Field Name called “SFS Affiliate Link” with a Global Value of “http://salesfunnelsecrets.com/?rid=1″ and use {!global 01 sfs aff url} in your messages.

The Field Name identifies whatever you want to add to your message to customize it. I find it a good idea to number the Global Fields to make them easier to identify.

The Global Value is the link of what you want your subscriber to see. It can also be your name, phone number, etc.

When you have completed your Global Fields you will find the correct “Tag” to put in your message by going to the messages in your campaign. Click on the message, and you will see the message in the edit box. Above the “Subject” window there is a window called “Personalization Fields” If you click on the arrow on the right in this window, a drop down menu will appear. If you scroll down you will see something like this: {!global 01 sfs aff url} Click on it, and it will be placed in your message, thus adding your 1st Field Value in your message. All you do is make sure that your cursor is in the place where you want the Global Field added.

You will also see other links you can use to personalize your message like adding the date and the name of the person receiving the message. For names always use {firstname_fix} or {name_fix}….._fix ensures that the first name and last name will always start with upper case. The date format we found to be best is {date long+0}

You can look at these and test them to find out what each one is for.

Important: If you have a HTML messages, do not edit your message in this manner. You should do all your editing outside of AWeber and then paste them into AWeber. If you have HTML messages, the links get broken when you edit in AWeber’s message editor.

Each campaign you create in your AWeber must have it’s own Global Fields created according to what you want to add in the messages. This is one of the reasons you should enter all your Campaigns with their own Global Fields in your AllMyLinks spread sheet for easy access and reference.

TIP:
When you grab a shared campaign by using the sharing code, the Global Fields always default to the original campaign Global Fields, so you have to change these to your own each time you re-grab the messages.

Reminder: We have two new shared campaigns in AWeber:
