How to attract New Skype Contacts…

and have them add you as a contact FIRST before you add them.

What a great feeling it is to have Skype users adding you to their list first. That indicates that THEY FOUND YOU and that they want to get to know you better. When they add you, it shows that they are interested in you and what you have to offer, and it makes them much more receptive to your offers.

There are several ways of attracting people and having them WANT to add you.

• Creating an interesting Skype profile and sending a good message with your invitation is the best place to start- make them curious enough to want to know more about you. You are limited to 200 characters in Skype for your profile so my suggestion is always to have a good profile set up on a blog and leaving a link to that in your profile too. On a blog you can elaborate on your offers better that in a Skype profile, but always remember that your profile should tell people about you as a person too and not only about you business.
• Target you invitation to include people with an interest that you can speak easily about. If you use Message Magic to search for contacts it is easy to search for people with a specific interest, so you can choose something that you are very knowledgeable about and that you feel comfortable chatting about. It does not have to have anything to do with your business.
• Make it a short message – Short but interesting – basically introduce yourself without sounding like an advertisement. Tell them a little about yourself – just enough to get them interested enough to want to know more.
• Don’t promote!! You should be interested in them first. Ask them about themselves and their interests. You can even ask them about their family. People love to talk about their family. Offer them help wherever you can. You must have something to offer them…..position yourself as a resource.
• You need a way to let them know what you offer online and let them know that you want to know what is of interest to them. You have to find a way to do this without openly promoting to them….  What has worked for me is to have others send people my way and to have my Skype ID & buttons on other sites… like my blogs, or other social sites like Facebook, Ning, My Space, Ryze, YouTube, etc
• Teach them how to add you – they may not be sure how to do it.

These are lessons that will help you even after people have added you. Always have the right mindset….Be helpful. Your actions should always be that of someone who is interested in others. Someone who can be of help to them and willing to carry your promise through….. be a resource…. Be a giver not a taker…I believe that the more you give, the more you receive. I also find that giving is very rewarding.
