How to build a responsive list on Skype

Today’s training is a continuation  of  last week’s training, if you missed it you can check it out here: Using Skype and Message Magic to get found, known, liked and trusted. This was taken from Topic #13 of the Message Magic Survey on Squidoo. Did you take the Survey yet? Which is your favorite topic?

Want results with Skype? Gain Trust!

If you want results using Skype for making business contacts then you must gain their trust. Sending ads and links too soon or even after you get to know them, if sent too often, and with out permission, that is not very attractive. You will not gain people’s respect nor trust.

Take Time to Build Relationships on Skype

The main point I must emphasize is the importance of getting to know each other before telling a new Skype contact (or an old contact), anything about what you are selling.  Wait until they ask or look on their own. Are you findable online? How is your Skype Profile?

Get Permission

In other words you will be getting permission to send them info that they are interested in. Always start out asking them what their interests and needs are, and offer your help wherever you can. Building a relationship in Skype is very much like building a relationship in any Social Networking site, only it is much easier, as you have so many more options of communicating. Using Message Magic to get new contacts in Skype saves you time in at least two ways. You can search for people with specific interests and get multiple contacts in to a new group list in your skype, a targeted list. You can also try sending a broadcast to this list all at once, targetd to their interests. No ads!

Be Findable via Good Profiles Both on Skype

Your Blog and Other Social sites

You need to start with a good profile. Because you are limited to 200 characters in your Skype profile it is advisable to have a good “About me” message or page on a blog. You can send people there to read it by placing the link to it in your Skype profile. Blogs are easy and mostly free. If you do not have a blog there are other options too. There are Forums, MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Ning sites, You Tube, etc, etc, etc… the list is endless. And free too! And … you can use this same blog post for Social Networking sites.

Be Attractive!

Use your Skype Profile to make sure people can find places to read about you. It is a good idea to “go wide” and get in many places online as you can. It does not take too long. Just do it!  Then, if they are finding your sites, clicking through your sales pages, blogs, Profiles or Forum posts reading about you from your writings. This way, they are finding out about you on their own. If you make this interesting enough, they will want to get to know you personally. You will become known, liked and trusted. One way to make it interesting is to learn some thing useful or even learn about another good resource, and share this helpful tip with them.

Here is what I do on Skype with new contacts

Once we have connected on Skype, I usually text with them for a while. Then I do a voice call with them. Skype is great for that, because then you have the text history of your communication and reasons in writing permanently in Skype chat history what you have in common with them. Later, take time to ask if you can voice with them. Make a voice call on Skype – voice makes a big difference – you feel a person’s humanity more.

Mindset, Attitude and Posture that Attracts Others To You

You have to have the right attitude and mindset. If you have in mind only to sell to them, to get them to join something, even if its free, this is definitely the wrong attitude. People don’t like hype and do not like to be sold to. People like to buy but not be sold. To be attractive, always be giving, be interested in them as a person, be helpful.

Make a Good  Impression – Do not ruin your contact list!

I personally just shut down when people start telling me how much money I can make. Whether it is 3 cents or 3 Million… I still shut down and quickly lose respect and interest in the person.

Build a List on Skype & Build Trust with Them

Try just being yourself. Try making friends.  Try to speak to a new Skype Friend every day. Or an old Skype Friend. This has always worked really well for me for many  years on Skype since 2003, which was the same year Skype was born. Build a list on Skype and build trust with that list. Also start moving your contacts to targetd groups to keep track of them.

Targeted Lists on Skype

Do you know how to enable your groups in Skype?  (I am not talking about group rooms with many people in them here – no). You can actually build targeted lists in Skype to manage your contacts. And if you have a tool like Message Magic, you can send a broadcast message to groups  all at once, targeted to  their interests and your common interests and projects you have together. This can even be a personal message using their first name. Ask me how I send multiple short message to make it look even more personal, as well as to give me time to respond to them all personally.

Do you keep your Skype on? Do you respond to your Skype contacts?

By taking this approach, you will be attractive. And people will want to join you, buy from you. They will want to know more about you, get info from you to help them, and people will start to think of you as a valuable resource. It is nice to have people add you as a contact first, and it can be done.

How to Attract New Skype Contacts To Add you First

Next training we will teach you what you can do to encourage new Skype contacts to add you first! Very useful with a tool like Message Magic.

Need Skype Networking Training?

We invite you to join us on Mondays in a Skype Room called “Introduce Myself Monday“. This will give you a chance to learn and get support from a community on how to network and connect with people on Skype.

One on One Coaching

Got questions you want to ask me? Need more in depth training? Then you can request a one on one  coaching session with me. It is a perfect opportunity for you to get individual attention and ask all the questions that you have been wanting to ask, but just don’t always get the chance in a general training. Find out how to order your one-on-one coaching here. You can also attend other’s one on one coaching sessions also. As you will read, these are open to the public to listen in.

  3. Thank you for the comment Xarah! Yes having a voice chat with some one helps add depth to your connection with the other person. As for language barriers, I have experienced that it still works well, even if you barely can understand each other.

I had a voice chat with a Russian the other day who I had been texting with for over a month of and on. It was great…. even though we still texted each other while we were on voice.

Google translate is also helpful to translate most languages for text chat http://translate.google.com/ . It has a nice “swap” link to switch between your two languages. So you can either write in your language and translate to theirs, then copy and paste it to Skype, then swap and take what they have written, copy it from Skype, paste and translate it to your language.

    Try it.

Even while voicing you can text and take notes. Its a lot of fun!

  4. Thank you, that was very valuable. I liked the part about voicing with Skype contacts. Never occurred to me. Well, I’m kinda shy and English not being my mother tongue and all. Also if I am in touch with another foreigner, I’m afraid I would not understand them and that could become embarrassing :-)
