Thank you for the comment Xarah! Yes having a voice chat with some one helps add depth to your connection with the other person. As for language barriers, I have experienced that it still works well, even if you barely can understand each other.

I had a voice chat with a Russian the other day who I had been texting with for over a month of and on. It was great.... even though we still texted each other while we were on voice.

Google translate is also helpful to translate most languages for text chat http://translate.google.com/ . It has a nice "swap" link to switch between your two languages. So you can either write in your language and translate to theirs, then copy and paste it to Skype, then swap and take what they have written, copy it from Skype, paste and translate it to your language.

Try it.

Even while voicing you can text and take notes. Its a lot of fun!

Thank you, that was very valuable. I liked the part about voicing with Skype contacts. Never occurred to me. Well, I'm kinda shy and English not being my mother tongue and all. Also if I am in touch with another foreigner, I'm afraid I would not understand them and that could become embarrassing :-)
