People don’t always like to look at statistics, but this is essential for a successful business.

Have you ever wondered whether your blog is getting visitors, and if it does, how many visitors, where they came from, Are the spiders picking it up and search engines sending people to your blog, what keywords & key phrases were searched for to find you, etc, etc…
This is all vital information to have – especially what keywords were searched and what search engines sent people to you.

Has anyone ever looked at their WordPress StatPress. (This was taken from a blog at WordPress.org – WordPress.com reads slightly different but you will get very similar information)

If you go to Overview, you will see a graph with 4 different statistics in a different color for each heading:

Visitors, Pageviews, Spiders, Feeds.

The information they give for each: Total Last Month, This Month, Yesterday, Today.

Then go to details and you are given the following details:

  • Last Hits: Date, Time, IP addresss, Domain, Page viewed, Operating System, Browser, feed.
  • Feeds: Feeds, visits, % (Of people using a particular feed)
  • Top Days: Date, Visits, % (%per date)
  • Operating Systems that were used: O.S. Visits, %
  • Browser Used: Browser, Vistis, %
  • Search Engines: Search engine, Visitors, %
  • Top Search Terms: Top Search Terms, Visitors, %
  • Last Search Terms: Date, Time, Terms, Engine, Result
  • Top Referrer (Where the visitor was sent from) Visits, %
  • Last Referrers: Date, Time, URL (Who sent them) Result
  • Last Agents: Date, Time, Agent, What
  • Countries (domains): Countries, Visits, %
  • Spiders: Spiders, Visits, %
  • Last Pages (viewed): Date, Time, Page, What
  • Pages: Address (Visited) Visits

I honestly feel that this is invaluable information that can assist you in getting better results from your blog. You can use this information to plan better – especially to get more traffic sent to you by search engines. Use this to your advantage to attract Spiders – this is free and passive advertising at its best. Study keywords and key phrases, and use the best ones possible in your blog. Once you know how to optimize this, you can relax and watch the visitors stream in.

  • The top day for this blog thus far in November was:

November 15, 2007 with 1352 visits

  • The 4 top Spider visits were: (There were 15 Spiders Featured)

From theses statistics you can see that this is a very useful tool to use if you are interested in getting your Blog free traffic sent to by the search engines.
