What is a press Release

A Press Release is an announcement in the news media to inform people of a happening or event. This is an excellent tool for getting your business known and getting traffic to your site. Press Releases used to be done mostly in print, on TV and Radio. Today we have the added advantage of the internet. All you have to do is write an article about the announcement you want to make, and submit this to the correct site.

Here are 3 of the most popular ones:

1. Google is the most popular search engine at the moment. If you can get your press release on Google’s news site, it is sure to get a lot of traffic.

2. Yahoo news section is also very popular and can get you a lot of traffic as well.

3. Often press releases that show on Yahoo news filter through to MSN as well.

SELECT YOUR KEYWORDS WELL

Don’t just write a whole lot of keywords that you think will work. It is best to test them – do a keyword research. Remember, you don’t want the most popular keywords, as those mean a lot more competition, and the likely hood of yours ever being seen, is very small. You need targeted keywords. Let me explain it like this….

Say for instance that you want to announce that you have a new site featuring recipes for home remedies using herbs. You could do a search for “recipes” and find a total of 200,000 searches per month. In other words, 200,00 people used the word “recipe” to search for a recipe they were looking for. Imagine the chance of your site coming up in so many searches, always bearing in mind that established sites always get higher rankings on the search engines than new sites.

I know what you must feel that you don’t stand a chance for your site to ever be shown but there are ways to beat this. Remember I told you that you need TARGETED keywords? Well, now let us see what I meant by that. Take another look at what you are promoting….. recipes for home remedies using herbs…. Take a key phrase such as “Home Remedies” (over 4000) or “Herbal Remedies” (1,393 ) “Herbal Home Remedies “ (only 15)

Judging from the results your keyphrase “Home Remedies” would give you a good number of visitors while there won’t be as much competition as when you use “Recipe” as your keyword. On the other hand again, “Herbal Home Remedies” had too few searches, so that would not be a good key phrase at all. In other words, too many searches means too much competition and too few searches means not enough interest.

I like to use WordTracker for my own Keyword Research. There is a free version that anyone can use.

The Title of your Press Release is also of extreme importance for two reasons:

  1. If you choose correctly according to your keyword research, it is sure to be indexed by the search engines.
  2. It will catch the attention of the user immediately.

If you make the title – “Recipes for Herbal Home Remedies” you will not get a good response judging by the keyword research. On the other hand if you made the titles – “The best Home Remedies by well known herbalist”, it should get you the traffic you need.

Later we will discuss this matter further. There are so many different criteria to consider, it will need a lot more time to discuss everything in detail.
