Why are my blocked Skype contacts no longer blocked?
Someone just asked me why her blocked Skype contacts where no longer blocked when logging into her Skype from another machine, a barrowed pc. Note: She also dowloaded old Skype version 3.8 just to see if it still works.
At first I thought it was because some Skype data is stored on the machine. I have witnessed missing text chats when switching to another computer to use Skype away from home. However, this is not the cause. It turns out that blocked contacts are stored on servers, like your Skype contact list. So contacts should remain blocked when using a new machine. But 3.8 is now a very old client, so something might be broken, is what one Skype engineer tells me.
Question: Why were blocked Skype contacts no longer blocked?
Answer: Using old Skype version 3.8 was the cause according to one Skype Consultant/Betatester. This effect has been seen on several occations of using old Skype version 3.8.
If this happens to you, see what happens to those contacts when you upgrade. And please let me know. You can comment below or in my Skype Tips chat room.
