Skype & Message Magic Webinar – Renaming your Skype Contacts

I like addressing people by their proper names, but sometimes a Skype Contact does not display their first name when they sign up… Some people use their business’ name, or a nickname. If you are a paying member of Message Magic, and you are using version 1.4, you can personalize the messages you send out by adding {FIRSTNAME} in your message. Message Magic will use the first word in the “name” as the personalized first name, example: The dog Parlour – If you send the message starting “Hello {FIRSTNAME}” It will appear like this: “Hello The”

Fortunately there is a way to overcome this problem – you can rename your contact in your list to display their first name. This is covered on page 5 of Message Magic’s Advanced User’s Guide……

Renaming Your Contacts

Please take the time to go through your contact list and rename each contact, if necessary, so they correctly display the person’s first name, and if possible their last name as well. I know this sounds like a long and tedious process, but by going through this it will allow you to use a very powerful personalization feature available for paying members starting with v1.4, and that is to include their first name inside messages you send out. This is ALWAYS a good thing to do… it makes your message appear aimed straight at them rather than some sort of less appealing bulk send.

If you don’t know what their name is, it is a good idea to ask them. Here are a few suggestions on how to ask..

• Please tell me – What is your real first name?
• How would you like me to address you?
• Can I call you by your first name – what is it?

Sending out personalized messages makes our contacts feel special – people like to be addressed by their names, and not as  “Hello friend” or “Hey fellow marketer”…. those terms are so obviously used for bulk mailings that many people will not even bother reading the message. I am sure most of us have had those, and ignored them – I know I have!!
